There were 649 housing units at an average density of {{convert|697.8|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The racial makeup of the city was 98.2% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.2% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], and 1.6% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] people of any race were 1.2% of the population.

There were 452 households, of which 13.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.6% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.3% had a male householder with no wife present, and 46.9% were non-families. 45.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 31.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.80 and the average family size was 2.45.

The median age in the city was 63.5 years. 13.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 2.3% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 9.6% were from 25 to 44; 27.3% were from 45 to 64; and 47.6% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 43.5% male and 56.5% female.

The racial makeup of the city was 99.00% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.36% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.27% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], and 0.36% from two or more races.

There were 528 households, out of which 15.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.6% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 3.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.9% were non-families. 41.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 29.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.96 and the average family size was 2.64.

In the city, the population was spread out, with 15.5% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 14.7% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 45.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 61 years. For every 100 females, there were 81.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $19,826, and the median income for a family was $30,956. Males had a median income of $23,194 versus $17,000 for females.
