Elmwood is located in northern Jefferson Parish at {{Coord|29|57|23|N|90|11|10|W|type:city}} (29.956455, −90.186098).<ref name="GR1" /> It is bordered to the north by [[Metairie, Louisiana|Metairie]], to the east by [[Jefferson, Louisiana|Jefferson]], to the west by [[Harahan, Louisiana|Harahan]], and to the south, across the [[Mississippi River]], by [[Avondale, Louisiana|Avondale]] and [[Bridge City, Louisiana|Bridge City]]. The [[Huey P. Long Bridge (Jefferson Parish)|Huey P. Long Bridge]], carrying [[U.S. Route 90]], crosses the Mississippi from Elmwood to Bridge City. [[Downtown New Orleans]] is {{convert|9|mi|0}} to the east.
