[[U.S. Route 209]] passes through the borough, leading east {{convert|14|mi}} to [[Tower City, Pennsylvania|Tower City]] and west {{convert|8|mi|0}} to [[Millersburg, Pennsylvania|Millersburg]] on the [[Susquehanna River]]. [[Pennsylvania Route 225]] crosses US 209 in the center of town, leading north {{convert|4|mi|0}} to [[Berrysburg, Pennsylvania|Berrysburg]] and southwest {{convert|9|mi|0}} to [[Halifax, Pennsylvania|Halifax]] on the Susquehanna. The population density was {{convert|2,476.2|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 617 housing units at an average density of {{convert|1,136.8|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the borough was 97.84% [[Caucasian (U.S. Census)|Caucasian]], 0.30% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.89% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.22% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.74% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.19% of the population.

There were 579 households, out of which 29.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.7% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.0% were non-families. 33.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.91.

In the borough the population was spread out, with 23.1% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 18.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 90.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.5 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $31,406, and the median income for a family was $40,625. Males had a median income of $34,659 versus $25,054 for females. About 6.6% of families and 8.7% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 8.4% of those under age 18 and 19.5% of those age 65 or over.
