The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females, there were 82.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.4 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $28,998, and the median income for a family was $31,735. Males had a median income of $27,536 versus $21,595 for females. About 10.6% of families and 12.9% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 17.1% of those under age 18 and 10.8% of those age 65 or over. ==History== The area was known as the Baillie settlement until the Elfers post office was established on Dec. 14, 1909. Frieda Marie (Bolling) Eiland, the wife of the first postmaster, chose the name of the post office to honor a favorite uncle, whose last name was Elfers. Railroad service came to Elfers for the shipment of citrus in 1913. In 1915, the Elfers School opened; it was the first brick school in western Pasco County.
