As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 1,390 people, 533 households, and 400 families residing in the township.  The population density was {{convert|39.7|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  There were 752 housing units at an average density of {{convert|21.5|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  The racial makeup of the township was 98.71% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.14% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.36% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], and 0.79% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.72% of the population.

There were 533 households, out of which 33.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.0% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.8% were non-families. 21.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.  The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.00.

In the township the population was spread out, with 26.3% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 96.6 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.5 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $30,119, and the median income for a family was $41,042. Males had a median income of $31,607 versus $21,793 for females. About 9.2% of families and 12.3% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 16.9% of those under age 18 and 6.1% of those age 65 or over.
