As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 4,762 people, 2,048 households, and 1,357 families residing in the CDP. The population density was {{convert|705.7|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 2,157 housing units at an average density of {{convert|319.7|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the CDP was 96.77% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.26% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.13% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.71% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.23% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.90% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] people of any race were 1.13% of the population. 21.6% were of [[German Americans|German]], 12.4% [[Italian Americans|Italian]], 10.8% [[English Americans|English]], 9.6% [[Irish Americans|Irish]], 7.6% [[American ancestry|American]] and 5.6% [[Finnish Americans|Finnish]] ancestry according to [[Census 2000]].

The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.82.

In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 21.5% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 17.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.6 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $40,170, and the median income for a family was $46,470. Males had a median income of $36,319 versus $21,985 for females.
