Eclectic was founded by Dr. M. L. The town is located along [[Alabama State Route 63]], which runs from south to north through the center of town, leading northeast {{convert|26|mi|km|abbr=on}} to [[Alexander City, Alabama|Alexander City]] and southwest {{convert|5|mi|km|abbr=on}} to the unincorporated community of Claud. [[Alabama State Route 170]] connects the town to [[Wetumpka, Alabama|Wetumpka]], the Elmore County seat, {{convert|15|mi|km|abbr=on}} to the southwest.
