It is believed that during the [[Spanish Florida]] era, the [[Spanish people|Spanish]] named the area where the town now stands after the [[Ebro|Ebro River]] in [[Spain]].<ref name=Ebro/>

FL-79 runs from north to south to the east of the town, leading north {{convert|31|mi|km|abbr=on}} to [[Bonifay, Florida|Bonifay]] along [[Interstate 10 in Florida|Interstate 10]] and south {{convert|16|mi|km|abbr=on}} to [[U.S. Route 98 in Florida|U.S. Route 98]] near [[Panama City Beach, Florida|Panama City Beach]]. The racial makeup of the town was 73.60% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 3.60% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 6.40% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.40% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.40% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 15.60% from two or more races.
