==Geography==
East Mountain is located in southeastern Upshur County. Small portions of the city extend south along Gilmer Road and Coulter Road into Gregg County.<ref name=TIGERweb/> The city limits extend northwest along Main Street and Medlin Road as far as East Mountain, a {{convert|660|ft|adj=on}} wooded summit overlooking the community.

East Mountain is {{convert|10|mi|0}} northwest of [[Longview, Texas|Longview]] and {{convert|7|mi|0}} northeast of [[Gladewater, Texas|Gladewater]].

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the city has a total area of {{convert|5.3|sqkm|order=flip}}, of which {{convert|0.02|sqkm|order=flip|2}}, or 0.44%, are water.<ref name="Census 2010"/>

As of the [[2020 United States census]], there were 899 people, 324 households, and 250 families residing in the city.

As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 580 people, 229 households, and 174 families residing in the city. The population density was {{convert|285.5|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 249 housing units at an average density of {{convert|122.6|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the city was 94.14% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.55% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.34% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.17% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 2.76% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.03% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 3.45% of the population.

There were 229 households, out of which 28.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.9% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 7.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.0% were non-families. 20.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
