'''Durand''' is a village in [[Winnebago County, Illinois|Winnebago County]], [[Illinois]], [[United States]]. It is part of the [[Rockford, Illinois]] [[Rockford metropolitan area|Metropolitan Statistical Area]] The population was 1,443 at the 2010 census, up from 1,081 in 2000.

==History==

Its township's beginnings initiated originally in a no longer existing settlement called Elton, an area South of Durand and including parts of the Pecatonica and Rock Run townships and settled in 1835 by Nelson Salisbury, Harvey Lower, and Scott Robb. They and nine other families settled the Southwest portion of modern Durand, Pecatonica, and Rock Run area.  Durand gave birth to Illinois' first tax-supported volunteer fire department.  Since its settlement, Durand has been prone to devastating fires.<ref>{{cite news|last1=Nelson|first1=C. The population density was {{convert|1,200.9|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 468 housing units at an average density of {{convert|519.9|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the village was 97.22% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.56% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.28% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.09% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.65% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.20% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.02% of the population.

There were 441 households, out of which 34.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.1% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 9.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.5% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.10.

In the village, the population was spread out, with 28.9% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.7 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $43,988, and the median income for a family was $51,042. Males had a median income of $41,016 versus $23,068 for females.
