The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.85.

The age distribution was 21.0% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 35.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% 65 or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females, there were 82.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.5 males.

The median household income was $27,500 and the median family income was $29,375. Males had a median income of $29,000 versus $15,938 for females. The per capita income for the town was $12,046. Located between Duffield and [[Pattonsville, Virginia|Pattonsville]], on [[U.S. Route 421]], is the gravesite of Ross Carter, a paratrooper from [[World War II]], who wrote ''Those Devils in Baggy Pants'', a story about the [[82nd Airborne]] during World War II. There are many [[American Civil War|Civil War]]-era homes in the Duffield area.

The town is situated at the southern edge of the [[Jefferson National Forest]] and approximately two miles west of [[Natural Tunnel State Park]].
