== History ==
The town of Diana was established from part of the town of [[Watson, New York|Watson]] in 1830. In 1841, part of the town was used to help establish the town of [[Croghan (town), New York|Croghan]]. Part of the [[Fort Drum|Fort Drum Military Reservation]] is in the northwestern reaches of the town.

The northeastern town line is the border of [[St. Lawrence County, New York|St. Lawrence County]], and the eastern town line is the border of [[Herkimer County, New York|Herkimer County]]. The eastern part of the town is in the [[Adirondack Park]].

[[New York State Route 3]] passes across the town and links with [[New York State Route 812]] south of Remington Center. The highways run conjointly near the northeastern town line.

The [[Indian River (Black Lake)|Indian River]], part of the [[Oswegatchie River]] watershed, flows out the western side of Diana.

The population density was {{convert|12.1|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  There were 1,206 housing units at an average density of {{convert|8.8|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  The racial makeup of the town was 97.11% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.06% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 1.14% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.48% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.06% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.06% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.08% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.54% of the population.

There were 642 households, out of which 32.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.4% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 6.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.2% were non-families. 21.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.  The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.00.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.8% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 27.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.5% who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.6 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.4 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $33,900, and the median income for a family was $39,563. Males had a median income of $35,450 versus $21,813 for females.
