It lies {{convert|320|km}} south of Sydney and {{convert|100|km}} east of Canberra. The nearest coastal towns are [[Batemans Bay]], [[Moruya]] and [[Narooma]]. Deua is a remote wilderness area characterized by escarpments, gullies, waterfalls, [[Karst|limestone caves]], pockets of [[Eucryphia moorei|pinkwood]] rainforest, and notable [[eucalyptus]] scenery. It serves as an important refuge for various plant and animal species, many of which are listed as threatened. Rarer species include the [[Eucalyptus stenostoma|Jilliga ash]] and [[Eucalyptus deuaensis|Mongamulla mallee]]. High-altitude rainforests, dominated by [[Eucryphia moorei|pinkwood]], [[hard water fern]], and [[soft tree fern]], are found in gullies protected from fire.
