Examples of data compaction methods are the use of fixed-[[Engineering tolerance|tolerance]] bands, variable-tolerance bands, [[slope]]-keypoints, sample changes, curve patterns, [[curve fitting]], variable-[[precision (computer science)|precision]] coding, [[frequency]] analysis, and probability analysis.
