Danielson was originally named "Danielsonville" for Gen. James Danielson, the builder of the first house in the settlement. Danielson is the site of two [[historic district]]s listed on the National Register of Historic Places:

* [[Danielson Main Street Historic District]] is a {{convert|20|acre|ha|adj=on}} historic district along Main Street, from Water Street to Spring Street. Architectural styles in the district include [[Colonial Revival]] and [[Italianate]], as well as others. The Danielson Main Street Historic District was added to the [[National Register of Historic Places]] on April 8, 1992.<ref name="nris2">{{NRISref|2008a}}</ref>
* [[Broad Street – Davis Park Historic District]]: Roughly along Broad Street, from Dorrance Street to Winter Street, to the north of Danielson Main Street Historic District. The population density was {{convert|3,682.7|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 1,627 housing units at an average density of {{convert|1,479.0|/mi2|/km2|disp=preunit|units&nbsp;|units|}}. The racial makeup of the borough was 88.7% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 2.8% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.5% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 2.9% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 1.5% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 3.5% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 5.7% of the population.

The borough of Danielson and the town of Killingly are home to a small [[Laos|Laotian]] community. Both Danielson and Killingly are on the nation's list of top 50 cities with the highest percentage of citizens claiming Laotian ancestry.{{Citation needed|date=July 2009}} The first Laotian family came to Danielson in September 1979. They were sponsored by a local couple, Daniel and Carolyn O'Leary. The O'Leary family proceeded to sponsor nearly 500 Laotian refugees over the next decade.<ref>''Norwich Bulletin'' Archives</ref>

Of the 1,627 households: 29.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 34.4% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 17.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.1% were non-families. Of all households 30.2% were made up of individuals, and 9.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the borough, the population was spread out, with 24.0% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 30.6% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 96.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.9 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $58,933, and the median income for a family was $62,803. Males had a median income of $44,235 versus $34,236 for females. About 9.6% of families and 14.1% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 21.1% of those under age 18 and 6.8% of those age 65 or over.

==Transportation==
[[Danielson Airport]] is a state owned, public use [[airport]] located two&nbsp;[[nautical mile]]s (4&nbsp;[[kilometre|km]]) northwest of the [[central business district]] of Danielson.<ref>{{FAA-airport|ID=LZD|use=PU|own=PU|site=02803.*A}}. Federal Aviation Administration. Effective May 31, 2012.</ref> I-395 runs north and south through the town, and is the primary road for the borough. US 6 is the east–west road through the town, and severs the southern part of downtown. Route 12 runs through and severs downtown.
