==Geography==
Crane is located in the northwest corner of Martin County. The western border of the town follows the [[Daviess County, Indiana|Daviess County]] line. The Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division occupies the areas east of Crane (a visitor center lies within the town). [[Indiana State Road 558]] passes through the southern part of Crane, connecting the town with [[U.S. Route 231]] to the west. [[Interstate 69]] passes just north of Crane.

According to the [[U.S. Census Bureau]], Crane has a total area of {{convert|0.12|sqmi|sqkm|2}}, all of it recorded as land.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2022"/> Culpepper Branch has its headwaters in Crane and flows southeast to First Creek, which turns and flows west to join the [[White River (Indiana)|White River]] at [[Newberry, Indiana|Newberry]].

The [[population density]] was {{convert|1533.3|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|1}}. There were 109 housing units at an average density of {{convert|908.3|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The racial makeup of the town was 96.7% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]] and 3.3% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]].

There were 80 households, of which 27.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.3% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.3% had a male householder with no wife present, and 46.3% were non-families. 43.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 3.12.

The median age in the town was 39.4 years. 26.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 5.4% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 25.5% were from 25 to 44; 26.7% were from 45 to 64; and 16.3% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 48.4% male and 51.6% female.

The racial makeup of the town was 97.04% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.49% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], and 2.46% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.49% of the population.

There were 89 households, out of which 24.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.4% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 6.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.3% were non-families. 31.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.93.
