==History==
A post office has been in operation at Chandler since 1886.<ref>{{cite web | url=http://www.postalhistory.com/postoffices.asp?task=display&state=MN&county=Murray | title=Murray County | publisher=Jim Forte Postal History | accessdate=23 July 2015}}</ref> The city was named for [[John Alonzo Chandler]], a railroad official.<ref>{{cite book|last=Upham|first=Warren|title=Minnesota Geographic Names: Their Origin and Historic Significance|url=https://archive.org/details/minnesotageogra00uphagoog|year=1920|publisher=Minnesota Historical Society|page=[https://archive.org/details/minnesotageogra00uphagoog/page/n384 365]}}</ref>

[[Chandler Air Force Station]] was located just south of town from 1951 though 1969, home to 787th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron.

On June 16, 1992, Chandler was struck by a [[1992 Chandler–Lake Wilson tornado|devastating F5 tornado]] that completely destroyed half of the town, most of which has since been rebuilt.

The [[Fenton Wind Farm]], a 137-turbine [[wind farm]] near Chandler, became operational in 2007.

==Geography==
Chandler is in southwestern Murray County, bordered to the south and west by [[Moulton Township, Murray County, Minnesota|Moulton Township]], to the east by [[Fenton Township, Murray County, Minnesota|Fenton Township]], to the northeast by [[Leeds Township, Murray County, Minnesota|Leeds Township]], and to the north by [[Chanarambie Township, Murray County, Minnesota|Chanarambie Township]]. [[Minnesota State Highway 91]] passes through the east side of the city, leading north {{convert|5|mi|0}} to [[Lake Wilson, Minnesota|Lake Wilson]] and south {{convert|20|mi}} to [[Adrian, Minnesota|Adrian]]. [[Slayton, Minnesota|Slayton]], the Murray [[county seat]], is {{convert|13|mi}} to the northeast. Murray County Roads 4 and 5 are additional routes in the community.

The racial makeup of the city was 88.9% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.7% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 9.6% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 0.7% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 22.6% of the population.

[[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 17.39% of the population.
