The racial makeup of the town was 63.22% [[Race (United States Census)|White]], 35.59% [[Race (United States Census)|Black]] or [[Race (United States Census)|African American]], 0.85% [[Race (United States Census)|Pacific Islander]], and 0.34% from two or more races.

There were 257 households, out of which 25.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.7% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 16.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.6% were non-families. 37.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 18.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 3.05.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.1% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 79.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 74.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $21,204, and the median income for a family was $30,000. Males had a median income of $27,386 versus $17,143 for females.
