Carl Junction has a recent history of violent tornadoes. The city was struck by an [[May 2003 tornado outbreak sequence#May 4 event|F3 tornado]]  on May 4, 2003. On May 22, 2019, the city was hit with an [[Tornado outbreak sequence of May 17–23, 2019#May 22 event|EF3 tornado]], causing damage to several buildings.

The population density was 1,488.7 per square mile (574.7/km{{sup|2}}). There were 2,966 housing units at an average density of 542.2 per square mile (209.3/km{{sup|2}}). The racial makeup was 87.3% (7,109) [[White (U.S. Census)|white]], 0.9% (73) [[African American (U.S. Census)|black or African-American]], 1.71% (139) [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.82% (67) [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.0% (0) [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.92% (75) from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 8.35% (680) from two or more races.
