The [[Race and ethnicity in the United States census#2010 census|racial makeup]] of the city was 98.6% White, 0.2% African American, 0.4% Asian, and 0.7% from two or more races. Of the 478 households 27.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.6% were married couples living together, 13.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.0% were non-families. 31.0% of households were one person and 20.1% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.99.

The age distribution was 24.0% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 21.0% from 45 to 64, and 22.9% 65 or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females, there were 85.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.1 males.
