==Geography==
Calypso is located in northwestern Duplin County. [[U.S. Route 117]] passes through the town, leading northeast {{convert|4|mi|0}} to [[Mount Olive, North Carolina|Mount Olive]] and {{convert|18|mi}} to [[Goldsboro, North Carolina|Goldsboro]], and south {{convert|3|mi|0}} to [[Faison, North Carolina|Faison]] and {{convert|11|mi}} to [[Warsaw, North Carolina|Warsaw]]. U.S. Route 117 Connector leads southwest {{convert|5|mi|0}} to [[Interstate 40 in North Carolina|Interstate 40]] at a point {{convert|70|mi}} north of [[Wilmington, North Carolina|Wilmington]] and {{convert|58|mi}} south of [[Raleigh, North Carolina|Raleigh]].

The population density was {{convert|422.7|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 204 housing units at an average density of {{convert|210.3|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the town was 71.71% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 22.93% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.49% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.49% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 3.17% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.22% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 4.39% of the population.

There were 178 households, out of which 24.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.6% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 12.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.1% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.87.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 21.0% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 21.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $26,667, and the median income for a family was $31,875. Males had a median income of $25,865 versus $19,583 for females.
