==Geography==
Brownfields is located north of the center of East Baton Rouge Parish and is bordered to the north by the city of [[Baker, Louisiana|Baker]], to the east by [[Central, Louisiana|Central]], and to the southwest by [[Baton Rouge, Louisiana|Baton Rouge]]. Brownfields is {{convert|10|mi}} northeast of downtown Baton Rouge. The border with Central is formed by the [[Comite River]], a south-flowing tributary of the [[Amite River]].

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the Brownfields CDP has a total area of {{convert|10.7|km2|order=flip}}, of which {{convert|0.02|km2|order=flip|2}}, or 0.15%, is water.<ref name="Census 2010"/>

As of the [[2020 United States census]], there were 5,145 people, 2,027 households, and 1,337 families residing in the CDP.

The population density was {{convert|1,265.3|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 2,024 housing units at an average density of {{convert|490.4|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the CDP was 46.80% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 51.82% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.15% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.46% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.11% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.65% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.57% of the population.

There were 1,884 households, out of which 35.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 16.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.2% were non-families. 21.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.14.

In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 25.9% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 89.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.4 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $38,103, and the median income for a family was $41,943. Males had a median income of $34,135 versus $22,279 for females.
