Blakesburg was laid out in 1852. Located three miles northeast of Blakesburg, the [[Airpower Museum (Antique Airfield)|Airpower Museum]] features approximately 25 mostly pre-[[World War II]] aircraft on display as well as the Library of Flight, and early flight simulators, propellers, engines, and original art. ==Education==
The [[Eddyville–Blakesburg–Fremont Community School District]] serves the community. It has one school building—Blakesburg Elementary Attendance Center—located in the community. Students grades 7–12 attend the Eddyville–Blakesburg Junior/Senior High School in neighboring Eddyville.

The district was formed by the 2012 merger of the [[Eddyville–Blakesburg Community School District]] and the [[Fremont Community School District]].
