In presidential politics, it is one of the most Democratic counties in Iowa. As the state swung hard to the right in the 2010s and 2020s, Black Hawk County—as a major population center, in accordance with most other population centers nationwide—has remained staunchly Democratic. In 2016, however, Donald Trump became the first Republican since 1984 to hold the Democratic candidate's margin to under 10 percent, and in 2024 Trump came the closest to winning the county since 1984. {{PresHead|place=Black Hawk County, Iowa|source=<ref>{{cite web|url=http://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS|title=Dave Leip's Atlas of U.S. Presidential Elections|first=David|last=Leip|website=uselectionatlas.org|access-date=April 10, 2018}}</ref>}} <!-- PresRow should be {{PresRow|Year|Winning party|GOP vote #|Dem vote #|3rd party vote #|State}} --> {{PresRow|2024|Democratic|30,572|31,299|1,035|Iowa}} {{PresRow|2020|Democratic|29,640|35,647|1,306|Iowa}} {{PresRow|2016|Democratic|27,476|32,233|4,696|Iowa}} {{PresRow|2012|Democratic|26,235|39,821|1,085|Iowa}} {{PresRow|2008|Democratic|24,662|39,184|941|Iowa}} {{PresRow|2004|Democratic|28,046|35,392|469|Iowa}} {{PresRow|2000|Democratic|23,468|30,112|1,505|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1996|Democratic|19,322|29,651|4,136|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1992|Democratic|21,398|29,584|10,568|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1988|Democratic|24,112|31,657|402|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1984|Republican|32,262|31,467|504|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1980|Republican|29,627|27,443|6,652|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1976|Republican|30,994|29,508|1,213|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1972|Republican|30,929|21,721|1,132|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1968|Republican|25,594|21,097|2,863|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1964|Democratic|19,744|30,716|56|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1960|Republican|28,435|24,078|38|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1956|Republican|28,250|20,403|66|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1952|Republican|28,671|17,360|203|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1948|Democratic|16,041|19,603|586|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1944|Democratic|15,687|16,593|154|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1940|Democratic|17,132|17,305|95|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1936|Democratic|13,666|16,793|1,222|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1932|Republican|14,746|14,660|359|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1928|Republican|19,409|8,467|113|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1924|Republican|15,813|2,981|5,427|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1920|Republican|16,920|4,000|1,181|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1916|Republican|6,742|4,270|349|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1912|Progressive|1,601|3,702|5,346|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1908|Republican|5,437|3,127|548|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1904|Republican|5,236|1,861|730|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1900|Republican|5,010|2,512|259|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1896|Republican|4,643|2,167|220|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1892|Republican|3,483|2,544|75|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1888|Republican|3,106|2,127|76|Iowa}} {{PresRow|1884|Republican|3,153|2,084|0|Iowa}} {{PresFoot|1880|Republican|3,014|1,558|96|Iowa}} ==See also== {{Portal|Iowa}} *[[National Register of Historic Places listings in Black Hawk County, Iowa]] *[[Impact of the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic on the meat industry in the United States]] ==References== <!--<nowiki> See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Footnotes for an explanation of how to generate footnotes using the <ref> and </ref> tags, and the template below. </nowiki>--> {{Reflist|30em}} ==External links== {{Commons}}<!-- for current and future use if material is uploaded --> *[http://www.co.black-hawk.ia.us/ Black Hawk County government's website] {{Geographic Location |Centre = Black Hawk County, Iowa |North = [[Bremer County, Iowa|Bremer County]] |Northeast = [[Fayette County, Iowa|Fayette County]] |East = [[Buchanan County, Iowa|Buchanan County]] |Southeast = [[Benton County, Iowa|Benton County]] |South = |Southwest = [[Tama County, Iowa|Tama County]] |West = [[Grundy County, Iowa|Grundy County]] |Northwest = [[Butler County, Iowa|Butler County]] }} {{Black Hawk County, Iowa}} {{Iowa}} {{authority control}} {{Coord|42|28|08|N|92|18|19|W|region:US-IA_type:adm2nd_source:dewiki|display=title}} [[Category:Black Hawk County, Iowa| ]] [[Category:Waterloo – Cedar Falls metropolitan area]] [[Category:1843 establishments in Iowa Territory]] [[Category:Populated places established in 1843]]
