Coal was discovered in Bevier in 1860, and coal mining was an important part of the town economy well into the 20th century. US 36 leads east {{convert|5|mi|0}} to [[Macon, Missouri|Macon]], the [[county seat]], and west {{convert|28|mi}} to [[Brookfield, Missouri|Brookfield]].

According to the [[U.S. Census Bureau]], Bevier has a total area of {{convert|1.04|sqmi|sqkm|2}}, all of it recorded as land.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2023"/> An unnamed creek passes through the center of town, flowing west toward the Middle Fork of the [[Little Chariton River]], a south-flowing tributary of the [[Missouri River|Missouri]].

The racial makeup of the city was 97.4% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.3% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.4% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], and 1.0% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.1% of the population.

The racial makeup of the city was 97.65% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.83% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.41% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], and 1.11% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.14% of the population.
