Bernie is located almost in the [[Missouri Bootheel]], eight miles south of [[Dexter, Missouri|Dexter]] and approximately nine miles north of [[Malden, Missouri|Malden]] on [[Missouri Route 25]]. The racial makeup of the city was 94.89% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 2.20% [[Black (U.S. Census)|Black]] or [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.61% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.10% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.77% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 1.43% from two or more races.
