==Geography==

Avinger is located in southwestern Cass County. [[Texas State Highway 49]] passes through the town center, leading northwest {{convert|9|mi|0}} to [[Hughes Springs, Texas|Hughes Springs]] and southeast {{convert|16|mi}} to [[Jefferson, Texas|Jefferson]]. [[Texas State Highway 155]] crosses Highway 49 southeast of the town center and leads northeast {{convert|14|mi}} to [[Linden, Texas|Linden]], the Cass County seat, and southwest {{convert|27|mi}} to [[Gilmer, Texas|Gilmer]].

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], Avinger has a total area of {{convert|5.1|km2|order=flip}}, of which {{convert|0.03|sqkm|order=flip|2}}, or 0.56%, is water.<ref name="Census 2010"/>
