The population was 37 at the 2010 census. The community is a small mining settlement in a gulch near South Pass in southwestern Wyoming. It was founded in 1868 as a mining camp following the 1867 gold rush in the region. The "Atlantic" name refers to its location on the eastern side of the nearby Continental Divide. The town declined following the end of the placer gold rush in the early 1870s, but continued to exist as advances in mining technology allowed further extraction of gold. From the 1960s until 1983, it was the location of a US Steel iron ore mine. The town is accessible by gravel roads from nearby Wyoming Highway 28. The town today has rustic flavor, with a small cluster of residences and the preserved Atlantic City Mercantile store and restaurant along the main road through town. It attracts a small number of tourists in the summer as well. ==Geography== Atlantic City is located at (42.495228, -108.718830). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.8 square miles (20.2 km<sup>2</sup>), all land. ===Climate=== According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Atlantic City has a semi-arid climate, abbreviated "BSk" on climate maps. {{Weather box |location = Atlantic City, Wyoming, 1991–2020 normals, extremes 1897–present: 7821ft (2384m) |single line = Yes |Jan record high F = 46 |Feb record high F = 46 |Mar record high F = 60 |Apr record high F = 69 |May record high F = 81 |Jun record high F = 88 |Jul record high F = 92 |Aug record high F = 91 |Sep record high F = 87 |Oct record high F = 75 |Nov record high F = 64 |Dec record high F = 52 |Jan avg record high F = 41.5 |Feb avg record high F = 42.6 |Mar avg record high F = 51.8 |Apr avg record high F = 65.0 |May avg record high F = 73.6 |Jun avg record high F = 81.8 |Jul avg record high F = 85.4 |Aug avg record high F = 84.1 |Sep avg record high F = 81.0 |Oct avg record high F = 66.5 |Nov avg record high F = 55.0 |Dec avg record high F = 42.8 |year avg record high F = 86.3 |Jan high F = 29.5 |Feb high F = 31.3 |Mar high F = 38.1 |Apr high F = 46.2 |May high F = 56.6 |Jun high F = 68.8 |Jul high F = 77.9 |Aug high F = 75.7 |Sep high F = 66.5 |Oct high F = 52.0 |Nov high F = 37.5 |Dec high F = 28.7 |year high F = |Jan mean F = 15.4 |Feb mean F = 19.2 |Mar mean F = 25.7 |Apr mean F = 33.6 |May mean F = 42.7 |Jun mean F = 53.0 |Jul mean F = 60.6 |Aug mean F = 58.9 |Sep mean F = 49.8 |Oct mean F = 37.4 |Nov mean F = 25.0 |Dec mean F = 16.7 |year mean F = |Jan low F = 1.2 |Feb low F = 7.1 |Mar low F = 13.3 |Apr low F = 20.9 |May low F = 28.8 |Jun low F = 37.2 |Jul low F = 43.2 |Aug low F = 42.0 |Sep low F = 33.1 |Oct low F = 22.7 |Nov low F = 12.4 |Dec low F = 4.7 |year low F = |Jan avg record low F = -20.6 |Feb avg record low F = -20.4 |Mar avg record low F = -8.1 |Apr avg record low F = -0.1 |May avg record low F = 15.5 |Jun avg record low F = 24.6 |Jul avg record low F = 31.3 |Aug avg record low F = 31.4 |Sep avg record low F = 22.3 |Oct avg record low F = 1.3 |Nov avg record low F = -9.5 |Dec avg record low F = -20.5 |year avg record low F = -25.6 |Jan record low F = -29 |Feb record low F = -31 |Mar record low F = -22 |Apr record low F = -9 |May record low F = 10 |Jun record low F = 20 |Jul record low F = 26 |Aug record low F = 25 |Sep record low F = 8 |Oct record low F = -20 |Nov record low F = -26 |Dec record low F = -36 |precipitation colour = green |Jan precipitation inch = 0.96 |Feb precipitation inch = 1.49 |Mar precipitation inch = 1.62 |Apr precipitation inch = 1.89 |May precipitation inch = 2.60 |Jun precipitation inch = 1.55 |Jul precipitation inch = 0.82 |Aug precipitation inch = 1.05 |Sep precipitation inch = 1.31 |Oct precipitation inch = 1.55 |Nov precipitation inch = 1.58 |Dec precipitation inch = 1.46 |year precipitation inch = |Jan snow inch = 14.9 |Feb snow inch = 23.6 |Mar snow inch = 22.4 |Apr snow inch = 24.1 |May snow inch = 8.7 |Jun snow inch = 0.0 |Jul snow inch = 0.0 |Aug snow inch = 0.0 |Sep snow inch = 2.9 |Oct snow inch = 6.0 |Nov snow inch = 12.8 |Dec snow inch = 19.7 |year snow inch = |source 1 = NOAA |source 2 = XMACIS2 (2013-2020 snowfall, records & monthly max/mins) }} ==Demographics== As of the census of 2000, there were 39 people, 23 households, and 8 families residing in the CDP.
