==Geography==
Archdale is located primarily in Randolph County and extends north into Guilford County. It is bordered to the southwest by the city of [[Trinity, North Carolina|Trinity]] and to the north by the city of [[High Point, North Carolina|High Point]].

[[Interstate 85 in North Carolina|Interstate 85]] passes through Archdale, with access from Exits 111 and 113. I-85 leads northeast {{convert|16|mi}} to [[Greensboro, North Carolina|Greensboro]] and southwest {{convert|77|mi}} to [[Charlotte, North Carolina|Charlotte]]. [[Interstate 74 in North Carolina|Interstate 74]] passes just east of Archdale, leading northwest {{convert|26|mi}} to [[Winston-Salem, North Carolina|Winston-Salem]] and southeast {{convert|21|mi}} to [[Asheboro, North Carolina|Asheboro]].

The population density was {{convert|1,151.8|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 4,916 housing units at an average density of {{convert|509.3|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the city was 87.8% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 4% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.6% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 4% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 1.4% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.4% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 4% of the population.

There were 4,556 households, out of which 30.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.3% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 12.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.1% were non-families. 26.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 2.97.

==History==
Archdale, previously known as "Bush Hill", began as a predominantly [[Quaker]] settlement and received the name "Archdale" as a tribute to [[John Archdale]], a lord proprietor and an early Quaker governor.<ref>{{Cite book|url=https://pubs.usgs.gov/bul/0258/report.pdf|title=Origin of Certain Place Names|last=Gannett|publisher=USGS|year=1905|pages=28}}</ref> It was incorporated in July 1969. Water and sewer service were needed because the area was "heavy [[clay]]".
