Alturas had a population of 2,715. The racial makeup of Alturas was 78.0% [[White Americans|White]], 1.1% [[African Americans|African American]], 4.1% [[Native Americans in the United States|Native American]], 1.3% [[Asian Americans|Asian]], 0.3% [[Pacific Islander Americans|Pacific Islander]], 6.0% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 9.3% from two or more races. The census reported that 99.2% of the population lived in households, 0.3% lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 0.6% were institutionalized.
