== History ==
The first European settler was John Seren who came from [[Connecticut]] in 1644. Later Townsend Albertson started a [[farm]] and [[gristmill]] and the community became known as Albertson.<ref name="aronson">{{Cite book |last=Newsday |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=PCUrAAAACAAJ |title=Home Town Long Island: The History of Every Community on Long Island in Stories and Photographs |last2=Staff |first2=Newsday |date=1999 |publisher=Newsday |isbn=978-1-885134-21-9 |language=en}}</ref>

In 1850, a road was built through Albertson on the lands of Isaac Underhill Willets. The road is still known as [[I.U. Willets Road]]. (Willets complained that Long Island has more roads than it would ever need). The [[Long Island Rail Road]] opened an [[Albertson station|Albertson]] train station in 1864.<ref name="aronson" />

In 1908, the [[Long Island Motor Parkway]] was built on the southern border of Albertson. In 1938, it was closed, and in 1940, it was replaced by the [[Northern State Parkway]], which runs along the northern border of Albertson.

In 1946, suburbanization began with a small development by [[William Levitt]]. The last farms were developed in the mid-1960s.<ref name="aronson" />

The Searingtown School (now in Albertson) was one of the schools involved in the landmark Supreme Court case [[Engel v. The population density was {{convert|7,866.8|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 1,853 housing units at an average density of {{convert|2,803.3|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the CDP was 70.4% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 24.3% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.3% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.02% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 1.27% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.83% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 5.50% of the population.

There were 1,812 households, out of which 33.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.7% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.4% were non-families. 17.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.87 and the average family size was 3.27.

In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 22.5% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 19.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.8 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $66,516, and the median income for a family was $77,516. Males had a median income of $55,000 versus $44,792 for females. The [[per capita income]] for the CDP was $31,222. About 4.5% of families and 4.7% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 5.4% of those under age 18 and 5.5% of those age 65 or over.
