'''Alamo''' is a town in [[Crockett County, Tennessee]], United States. Its population was 2,461 at the time of the [[2010 U.S. Census]]. Alamo, located in the central part of [[West Tennessee]], is the [[county seat]] of Crockett County.

==History==
Alamo was first founded as a trading post called Cageville by mercantile partners Isaac M. Johnson and Lycurgus Cage in 1846.<ref name=goodspeed>{{cite book|title=History of Tennessee from the Earliest Time to the Present|year=1886|publisher=[[Goodspeed Publishing]]}}</ref> The two were the first to do business in the town, engaging in [[general line of merchandise|general merchandising]] in 1847. Johnson became the town's first postmaster in 1848, and the town's first church, built by [[Methodists]], was erected the following year. As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 2,392 people, 945 households, and 605 families residing in the town. The population density was {{convert|1,112.5|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 1,076 housing units at an average density of {{convert|500.5|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the town was 76.25% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 21.32% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.13% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.13% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 1.42% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.75% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 2.34% of the population.

There were 945 households, out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.0% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 16.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.9% were non-families. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 18.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.98.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 23.8% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 22.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 81.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.5 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $25,750, and the median income for a family was $38,295. Males had a median income of $26,167 versus $21,650 for females. About 16.1% of families and 20.5% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 22.9% of those under age 18 and 23.8% of those age 65 or over.
