The North Carolina Visitors Center in the middle of town, on business highway 701, assists tourist and locals with these and other activities. The North Carolina Yam Festival takes place on the fourth Saturday in October. Based somewhat on the success of the fall Yam Festival, an annual spring festival, the Spring Fling, began in 2013, celebrating the Town and people of the area. Hunting and fishing are popular activities, as well as the over 100 golf courses within {{convert|40|mi}} of the town. An old train depot today serves as a small museum that operates primarily during the Yam Festival.
