Throughout his life, Diaghilev was severely afraid of dying in water, and avoided traveling by boat. Diaghilev was played by [[Alan Bates]] in the 1980 movie ''[[Nijinsky (film)|Nijinsky]]'', <ref>{{cite web|url=https://catalog.afi.com/Catalog/MovieDetails/56472|title=Nijinsky|website=[[AFI Catalog]]|access-date=2024-04-15}}</ref>and the [[Diaghilev Contemporary Art Museum|Contemporary Art Museum]] in [[Saint Petersburg State University]] is named after him.
