===Partition===
The [[Partition of India]] affected millions of [[Sikh]]s, [[Hindu]]s, and [[Muslim]]s attempting to escape the violence and carnage that followed.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/warstat3.htm |title=India |publisher=Users.erols.com |access-date=26 January 2011 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090506031637/http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/warstat3.htm |archive-date=6 May 2009 |url-status=live }}</ref> During the partition, the RSS helped the Hindu refugees fleeing West Punjab; its activists also played an active role in the communal violence during Hindu-Muslim riots in North India, though this was officially not sanctioned by the leadership. To the RSS activists, the partition was a result of mistaken soft-line towards the Muslims, which only confirmed the natural moral weaknesses and corruptibility of the politicians.
