As an extension of his successful work with youth as a young priest, John Paul II pioneered the international [[World Youth Day]]s. John Paul II presided over nine of them: [[Rome]] (1985 and 2000), [[Buenos Aires]] (1987), [[Santiago de Compostela]] (1989), [[Częstochowa]] (1991), [[Denver]] (1993), [[Manila]] (1995), [[Paris]] (1997), and [[Toronto]] (2002).
