==Personal life==
Cook was married three times. He was first married to Wendy Snowden, whom he met at university, in 1963. They had two daughters, Lucy and Daisy. Cook was a heavy smoker. As a regular interviewee on his friend's show, [[Michael Parkinson|Michael]] [[Parkinson (TV series)|Parkinson]], he was usually to be seen with a lighted cigarette in his hand or mouth during their broadcast interviews.<ref name=":1" />
