==Politics== Montrose is a staunch Republican county. It has not been won by a Democratic presidential nominee since [[Lyndon Johnson]]‘s 1964 landslide – indeed since then, no Democrat has managed forty percent of the county's vote. The county has leaned Republican ever since 1920; although before this, it did tend to vote Democratic between 1896 and 1916 except during the landslide loss of [[Alton B. Parker]] in 1904. {{PresHead|place=Montrose County, Colorado|source=<ref>{{cite web|url=http://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/|title=Dave Leip's Atlas of U.S. Presidential Elections|first=David|last=Leip|website=uselectionatlas.org|access-date=May 26, 2017}}</ref>}} <!-- PresRow should be {{PresRow|Year|Winning party|GOP vote #|Dem vote #|3rd party vote #|State}} --> {{PresRow|2024|Republican|16,704|8,354|568|Colorado}} {{PresRow|2020|Republican|16,770|7,687|465|Colorado}} {{PresRow|2016|Republican|14,382|5,466|1,338|Colorado}} {{PresRow|2012|Republican|13,552|6,138|440|Colorado}} {{PresRow|2008|Republican|12,199|6,495|459|Colorado}} {{PresRow|2004|Republican|11,218|4,776|225|Colorado}} {{PresRow|2000|Republican|9,266|4,041|908|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1996|Republican|6,730|4,019|1,490|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1992|Republican|4,847|3,713|3,163|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1988|Republican|6,012|3,748|233|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1984|Republican|7,162|2,864|147|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1980|Republican|6,685|2,232|883|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1976|Republican|4,838|3,164|280|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1972|Republican|4,571|1,870|618|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1968|Republican|3,547|2,394|771|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1964|Democratic|2,678|4,009|22|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1960|Republican|4,040|2,861|24|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1956|Republican|4,054|2,461|19|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1952|Republican|4,279|2,037|55|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1948|Democratic|2,473|2,544|99|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1944|Republican|2,952|2,258|27|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1940|Republican|3,744|3,013|98|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1936|Democratic|2,248|2,938|239|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1932|Democratic|1,992|2,516|350|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1928|Republican|2,873|1,297|101|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1924|Republican|2,077|1,239|1,217|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1920|Republican|2,225|1,522|311|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1916|Democratic|1,315|2,571|293|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1912|Democratic|631|1,478|1,643|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1908|Democratic|1,193|1,461|428|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1904|Republican|1,306|922|305|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1900|Democratic|658|1,038|138|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1896|Democratic|182|1,348|34|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1892|Populist|301|0|562|Colorado}} {{PresRow|1888|Republican|512|372|36|Colorado}} {{PresFoot|1884|Republican|420|230|20|Colorado}} In other offices, Montrose also is strongly Republican.
