=== Spiegel and Stern ownership, rebranding (2019–2023)=== On February 1, 2019, the team unveiled a new logo and updated uniforms, designed by GRDN Studio, replacing the previous "angry bird" logo used since the team's reestablishment in 1996 with a stylized "M", designed to resemble a bird and plane, and introducing a new "MontreALS" tagline, playing upon the team's nickname. The team also partnered with [[Vice Media]] on aspects of accompanying marketing and content.<ref>{{cite news|title=THE MONTREAL ALOUETTES UNVEIL THEIR NEW IDENTITY: MONTREALS|url=https://en.montrealalouettes.com/2019/02/01/montreal-alouettes-unveil-new-identity-montreals/|publisher=CFL Enterprises, LP|website=MontrealAlouettes.com|date=February 1, 2019|access-date=February 3, 2019}}</ref><ref>{{cite news|author=CFL.ca Staff|title=ALOUETTES UNVEIL NEW LOGO, UNIFORMS|url=https://www.cfl.ca/2019/02/01/new-identity-montreal-alouettes-unveil-new-logo-uniforms/|publisher=CFL Enterprises LP|website=CFL.ca|date=February 1, 2019|access-date=February 21, 2021}}</ref><ref>{{cite news|title=VICE dives into the heart of football culture with The Montreal Alouettes|url=https://en.montrealalouettes.com/2018/06/22/vice-dives-heart-football-culture-montreal-alouettes/|publisher=CFL Enterprises LP|website=MontrealAlouettes.com|date=June 22, 2018|access-date=August 22, 2020|language=en}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|title=Rick Zamperin: Montreal Alouettes hope new look will inspire dwindling fanbase|url=https://globalnews.ca/news/4922544/rick-zamperin-montreal-alouettes-hope-new-look-will-inspire-dwindling-fanbase/|website=900 CHML|language=en|access-date=2020-05-17}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|title=It's a Bird… It's a Plane…|url=https://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/archives/new_logo_and_identity_for_montreal_alouettes_by_grdn_studio.php|website=Under Consideration|language=en|access-date=2020-05-17}}</ref> On May 31, 2019, Wetenhall surrendered his ownership of the Alouettes to the league, after having attempted to pursue a sale. The Alouettes improved play during that season was also attributable to the performance of their quarterback Vernon Adams who passed for almost 4,000 yards. Although the team lost in the East Semi-Final to the crossover Edmonton Eskimos 37–29, the team removed the interim tag from Jones' head coach title, and he was signed to a three-year extension on November 26, 2019. On January 6, 2020, after almost a year of being owned by the league, the Alouettes found new ownership in Crawford Steel's Sid Spiegel and his son-in-law<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.tsn.ca/montreal-alouettes-sale-a-test-of-cfl-s-revamped-business-model-1.1843874 |title=Alouettes sale a test of CFL's revamped business model |last=Naylor |first=Dave |publisher=TSN |date=April 30, 2005 |website=tsn.ca|access-date=November 7, 2022}}</ref> Gary Stern, whose holding company S and S Sportsco would oversee the team.<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.cfl.ca/2020/01/06/montreal-alouettes-new-owners-announced/ |title=Montreal Alouettes new owners announced |date=January 6, 2020 |website=cfl.ca| publisher=Canadian Football League |access-date=January 6, 2020}}</ref> Spiegel died on July 28, 2021, before being able to see the team he bought play a game (the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic); in effect, the team was controlled by his estate.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/sidney-spiegel-co-owner-of-cfls-montreal-alouettes-dies/2021/07/30/7bc25ace-f173-11eb-81b2-9b7061a582d8_story.html|title=Sidney Spiegel, co-owner of CFL's Montreal Alouettes, dies|newspaper=Washington Post|date=July 30, 2021}}</ref> On August 29, 2022 Gary Stern announced that he was stepping away from day-to-day operations with the club and resigning from his role with the Canadian Football League's board of governors, effective immediately.<ref>{{Cite web |last=Naylor |first=Dave |date=2022-08-29 |title=Stern stepping away from Alouettes – TSN.ca |url=https://www.tsn.ca/gary-stern-stepping-away-from-montreal-alouettes-1.1842089 |access-date=2022-08-29 |website=TSN |language=en}}</ref>
