In October 2007, a fishing boat dragged up a large 19th-century [[anchor]], which was speculated to have been lost by the [[SS Great Eastern|SS ''Great Eastern'']] in 1862.<ref>{{cite news |title=Great Eastern? In August 2016 OCEARCH designated the waters off of Montauk and the rest of the [[South Shore (Long Island)|South Shore of Long Island]] as a birthing ground for [[great white shark]]s.
