== Status == Marathi is the [[official language]] of [[Maharashtra]] and additional official language in the state of [[Goa]].<ref name="ic"/> In [[Goa]], [[Konkani language|Konkani]] is the sole official language; however, Marathi may also be used for any or all official purposes in case any request is received in Marathi.<ref name="goa">The Goa, Daman, and Diu Official Language Act, 1987 makes Konkani the official language but provides that Marathi may also be used "for all or any of the official purposes". This special status expects the rules for tatsamas to be followed as in Sanskrit. This practice provides Marathi with a large corpus of Sanskrit words to cope with the demands of new technical words whenever needed.
