Foxx died on July 21, 1967, at age 59 in [[Miami, Florida]].<ref>{{cite web|url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=LZscAAAAIBAJ&pg=4615,5278907&dq=jimmie+foxx+choked&hl=en|title=Sarasota Herald-Tribune - Google News Archive Search|website=news.google.com}}</ref> He became ill while eating dinner with his brother and was taken to a hospital where resuscitative efforts failed. An autopsy showed that Foxx had choked on a piece of food.
