Grozny is the [[capital city|capital]] of the republic.<ref name="Capital">Constitution of the Chechen Republic, Article&nbsp;59</ref> Within the [[subdivisions of Russia#Administrative divisions|framework of administrative divisions]], it is incorporated as the [[city of federal subject significance|city of republic significance]] of Grozny&nbsp;– an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the [[administrative divisions of the Chechen Republic|districts]].<ref name="Ref162">Constitution of the Chechen Republic</ref> As a [[subdivisions of Russia#Municipal divisions|municipal division]], the city of republic significance of Grozny is incorporated as Grozny Urban Okrug.<ref name="Ref625">Law #44-RZ</ref> The city also serves as the [[administrative center|administrative centre]] of Groznensky Municipal District,<ref name="Ref938">Law #12-RZ</ref> but not of the corresponding [[Groznensky District|administrative district]].<ref name="Ref937">Decree #500</ref>
