Jones died of [[Heart failure|congestive heart failure]] on February 22, 2002, at his home in [[Corona del Mar, Newport Beach]] at the age of 89. He was [[Cremation|cremated]] and his ashes were scattered at sea.<ref name=obit/> After his death, [[Cartoon Network]] aired a 20-second segment tracing Jones's portrait with the words "We'll miss you".
