====USS ''Blue Island Victory''==== On December 28, 1944, 91 days after her keel was laid, the USS ''Blue Island Victory'' was launched from the [[Bethlehem Fairfield Shipyard|Bethlehem-Fairfield Shipyard]] in [[Baltimore]], Maryland. Dubbed "the Ugly Duckling of the [[United States Merchant Marine|merchant marine]]" by President [[Franklin D. Roosevelt]], [[Victory ship]]s were armed cargo ships that were built during [[World War II]] to transport troops and supplies wherever in the world their services were required. The USS ''Blue Island Victory'' was a type VC 2-S-AP2, which was {{convert|455|ft|m}} long, {{convert|62|ft|m}} wide, and had a {{convert|25|ft|m|adj=on}} [[Draft (hull)|draft]]. It was equipped with a {{convert|5|in|mm|adj=on}} gun on the stern for enemy submarines, a {{convert|3|in|mm|adj=on}} [[anti-aircraft gun]], and a 20 mm cannon.
