Sucre is home to the second oldest public university in the Americas, the [[University of San Francisco Xavier|Universidad Mayor Real y Pontificia de San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca]]; often abbreviated USFX. The university draws students both nationally and internationally, and different departments can be found scattered around the city.
