==Personal life== Lardner married Ellis Abbott of [[Goshen, Indiana]], in 1911. They had four sons who each became writers. [[John Lardner (sportswriter)|John Lardner]], born in 1912, was a newspaperman, sports columnist, and magazine writer. Ring's second born, James Lardner, worked as a newspaperman before he was killed in the [[Spanish Civil War]] fighting with the [[International Brigades]]. In 1939, James was remembered with the book ''Somebody Had to Do Something. A Memorial to James Phillips Lardner'', a book that printed 500-copies.
