Many Palestinians in Syria were displaced as a result of the [[Syrian Civil War]] starting in 2011. Palestinian refugees from Syria also sought asylum in [[Europe]], especially [[Sweden]], which had offered asylum to any Syrian refugees that managed to reach its territory, albeit with some conditions. Many did so by finding their way to [[Egypt]] and making the journey by sea.
