As part of their anti-Christianity, anti-Semitism, and the idea that White Europeans should return to their "native" ways, most NSBM bands promote ethnic European paganism. Benjamin Hedge Olson argues that NSBM is "indelibly linked with [[Heathenry (new religious movement)|Asá Trŭ]] and opposed to Satanism, which gives it a '[[blood and soil]]' attraction to many young Neo-Nazis looking for identity in their distant, ancestral past."{{Sfn|Olson|2008|p=99}} Hendrik Möbus interpreted the church burnings in Norway as:
