Hagman, Oakland County Book of History, p.207</ref> The school was built in 1926 and opened in 1927, opposite the Town Hall Sales Office, in an effort to give Lathrup Village a focal point.<ref>This is the date carved on the building entrance</ref> The building originally had four classrooms, a [[kindergarten]], and a gymnasium.<ref>Southfield Sun, 4 Dec 2013</ref> Additional classrooms were built in the 1950s.<ref>Michigan Roads and Construction vol. The school mascot was a beaver, and the sports teams were known as the Lathrup Beavers.<ref name="Gordie: The Legend of Mr. Hockey">Gordie: The Legend of Mr. Hockey</ref> Muriel Stacey established the library at the school.<ref>Detroit News, 24 Jun 2012</ref> [[Mark Howe]], [[Marty Howe]], and the rest of [[Gordie Howe]]'s children attended the school.<ref name="Gordie: The Legend of Mr. Hockey"/> After the school was closed, the building was purchased by [[Yeshivat Akiva]], which was based there until 1999. In the late 1990s the building was sold to a real estate developer, who hoped to use the land for a shopping center.
